The Copa Libertadores 2013 , also Copa Bridgestone Libertadores due to the sponsorship , was the 54th playout of the most important South American soccer competition for club teams. A total of 38 teams took part this season, 35 from the ten member associations of CONMEBOL , including defending champion Corinthians São Paulo from Brazil and the winner of the Copa Sudamericana 2012 São Paulo FC from Brazil, and three from Mexico. The tournament began on January 23 with the qualifying round and ended on July 24, 2013 with the final second leg.

Participating teams

The following teams took part in the 2013 Copa Libertadores. Since the Corinthians were automatically qualified as defending champions, Brazil was allowed to send six instead of the usual five participants to the tournament, with two having to qualify. Mexico, which actually belongs to CONCACAF , sent three teams to the tournament, one of which had to qualify. The teams that had to qualify for the main round are marked with a (Q) in the table.

mode

If there was a tie in the group stage, the goal difference was decisive for progress, then the number of goals scored, then the number of goals scored away . If these are also the same, the lot decided. In the knockout rounds, the away goal rule also applied in the event of a tie in points and goals. If their number is the same, a penalty shoot-out immediately followed without extra time . Only in the final was there an extra time when the score was tied 90 minutes before the penalty shoot-out .

qualification

The first leg took place on January 23, the second leg on January 30, 2013. The first team had home rights in the first leg, the second in the second leg.
