history

The Club Deportivo Huachipato association was founded on June 7th, 1947. A little later, the new club played its first game. Club Deportivo initially found its supporters among the employees of the local steel industry company. The club colors of the club were set to blue and black. The club initially used a sports field in Talcahuano , the home of CD Huachipato, as the stadium . In 1960 the association built the Estadio Las Higueras , which served as the association's home base for 48 years before it was demolished in 2008 and replaced by the Estadio CAP .

CD Huachipato started his football activities in lower Chilean leagues. At the beginning of the 1960s, the club became known to a wider audience when it was first promoted to the higher divisions. After Huachipato played his first season in the Segunda División, the second soccer league in Chile , in 1965 and established himself there, he made his first jump into the Primera División two years later . There Huachipato took a good sixth place in the table in the first season. In the years that followed, the club was always able to achieve good placements. In the 1974 season they occupied the first place in the table after 34 matchdays in front of CD Palestino , CSD Colo-Colo and Unión Española and thus won the Chilean football championship for the first and to this day last time. By taking first place in the Primera División, CD Huachipato also qualified for the Copa Libertadores of 1975 , where they failed in the first round. In the following years, CD Huachipato played almost continuously in the Primera División, but a second championship has not yet succeeded. Instead, the club won the Torneo Apertura Segunda Division, the national cup competition of Chile for the teams in the second division, twice in 1979 and 1983. CD Huachipato currently plays in the first Chilean league, where they finished sixth last season.

In the 2012 season, the CD Huachipato team had a big surprise. After a sixth place in the Torneo Clausura 2012 they defeated CD Palestino , the Rangers de Talca and in the final Unión Española in the playoff games and won the Chilean football championship for the first time since 1974. The win against Unión Española came on penalties in the second leg after both the first and second legs had ended with a 3-1 win for the respective home team.
