history
The Club Social de Deportes Rangers , also known as Rangers de Talca , was founded in 1902 in the city of Talca , the capital of the Región del Maule in the center of the country. The name of the club refers to an idea of one of the founding fathers, a Scotsman, based on the Glasgow Rangers club there .
Initially, the Rangers de Talca were not to be found in professional football in Chile for a long time. It was not until 1952 that he was promoted to the Segunda División, the second highest division in the country. There they immediately finished second and qualified for the Primera División for the first time in 1953 . In the period that followed, the club repeatedly experienced phases in which you could establish yourself in the top division and achieve decent placements, but also phases that brought the team back into second or even third division. Probably the greatest success in the club's history was achieved by the Rangers de Talca in 1969, when they finished second in the Primera División, only two points separated the Rangers from CF Universidad de Chile , which was able to secure the championship. But by this second place in the table, the team was eligible to start the Copa Libertadores 1970 . Here, however, they retired in the first group stage as the last of group three behind Club Guaraní , Universidad de Chile, Club Olimpia and the two Colombian representatives Deportivo Cali and América de Cali . To this day, this participation in the Copa Libertadores is the only one for the club, which soon went downhill again after the runner-up, only a few years later they played second class again.
The Rangers de Talca have been playing in the first Chilean football league again since 2012. Previously, they had prevailed in November 2011 in relegation games against CD Everton de Viña del Mar and achieved promotion to the Primera División. In 2012, with eighth place in the overall statement, not only did they more than secure relegation, they could even take part in the playoff games for the championship by finishing fifth in the Torneo Clausura. There, however, CD Huachipato turned out to be too big a hurdle in the semi-finals, after having previously eliminated Deportes Iquique .
