Career

society

Fuentes, whose nickname El Chupalla goes back to a traditional Chilean sombrero, learned to play football with third division club CD Linares . At the beginning of his career, he moved to the first division club CSD Rangers Talca in 2001 , with whom he won the Apertura runner-up in 2002. Only gradually did the defensive player develop into a high performer. In 2004 he decided to move to the Chilean record champions CSD Colo-Colo . But this commitment was short-lived and he quickly left the Chilean top club to join Jaguares de Chiapas abroad . Fuentes stayed with the Mexican club for five years. Only in the 2009 season he was awarded to league rivals Atlas Guadalajara . In 2006 he was able to dominate the league (Clausura) with the Jaguares: But then they missed a success in the play-off games. In 2010, the defender returned to his home country, where he joined CD Universidad Católica on loan . He returned to the Jaguares in mid-2010 and stayed for another two years. In 2012 he moved to UAT Correcaminos in the Ascenso MX , but only had four missions there. He joined CD Antofagasta in his home country in 2013 . He came into play in half the games. A year later, he was hired by Santos de Guápiles in Costa Rica. In mid-2015 he switched to Coquimbo Unido . He ended his career in 2017.

National team

He made his debut in the national team in 2003, when he was nominated by then coach Juvenal Olmos for the qualifying tournament for the 2004 Olympic football tournament in Athens in Chile . Some time later, the new coach Nelson Acosta brought him to the senior team and took him to the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela, where the central defender was used in all games. In May 2010 Fuentes was coached by Marcelo Bielsa in the squad of the Chilean national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Although he had a regular place under Bielsa during qualifying for the World Cup, he was in the second row behind Waldo Ponce and Gary Medel during the World Cup tournament .
