Waldo Alonso Ponce Carrizo (born December 4, 1982 in Los Andes ) is a Chilean football player. The defender has been under contract with CD Universidad de Concepción since 2015 .

Career

society

Ponce started his career in 2001 at the top Chilean club CF Universidad de Chile . He soon made European teams aware of himself through good performances. Already in 2003 there was a loan deal between Universidad and VfL Wolfsburg . Ponce made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 6 of the 2003/04 season when coach Jürgen Röber replaced Fernando Baiano in the 76th minute of the game against 1. FC Köln . This was followed by four more league appearances and an appearance in the DFB Cup for the defensive player before he moved back to Chile in the summer of 2005. Ponce was substituted on in all games for the Wolves and only played 81 minutes. Upon his return, Ponce established himself again at Universidad and became a regular again. In 2005 the team made it into the final for the Clausura, but had to admit defeat against CD Universidad Católica . Since there was no winner in regular time and overtime, the game was decided by a penalty , with Ponce missed the decisive one and his team lost the game.

In 2008, the defender went abroad again, but stayed in South America and signed with CA Vélez Sársfield in Argentina. Due to a few injuries, Ponce had little match experience at the beginning. After Hernán Pellerano left the club, his situation improved and Ponce became a regular during the first half of the 2008/09 season. After an injury during a game with the national team, the defensive player lost his place to Nicolás Otamendi , who replaced him as central defender. After Otamendi showed good performances and was even appointed to the squad of the Argentine national team, Ponce mostly only stayed in unfamiliar positions. At the end of the season Sarsfield won the Clausura. In early 2010 he switched to CD O'Higgins , which Ponce loaned to Universidad Católica in his home country for the 2010 season. There he came on seven missions and returned in mid-2010. O'Higgins loaned it to Racing Santander until the end of the year . He returned after only two missions.

In early 2011 Ponce switched to CD Cruz Azul in Mexico. There he became a regular again and played for the championship with his club. In July 2012 he was loaned to CF Universidad de Chile for six months, but was not used there. At the beginning of 2013 he terminated his contract with Cruz Azul and was without a club for six months before returning to CF Universidad de Chile in mid-2013. There he did not make the leap into the team in the following years. After only two appearances, he left the club again in mid-2015 and joined CD Universidad de Concepción .

National team

Ponce made his debut for the Chilean national team in 2006 in a series of friendly matches. He played his first international game on April 27, 2006 in a game against New Zealand. The following year he was appointed to the squad for the 2007 Copa America by then national coach Nelson Acosta . However, due to an injury, Ponce had to cancel. In the following years he was a regular player and qualified with the team for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, for which the defensive player was appointed to the Chilean squad in May 2010 .
