The Copa América 2007 was the 42nd game of the South American continental championship in football and took place for the first time in Venezuela from June 26 to July 15. As since the 1993 tournament , two non-South American visiting teams took part. This time, in addition to the "permanent guest" Mexico, which took part for the seventh time, the USA with its third participation after 1993 and 1995 .

The game was played in a combination of a group phase and a subsequent knockout round . The group stage was played in three groups of four teams each. The draw took place on February 14th in Caracas. The two best teams in each group and the two best third-placed teams reached the quarter-finals. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decided. With a few exceptions, the games in the group stage were, as has been the case several times in the past, within the framework of double events, each on one day in the same stadium.

Host Venezuela reached the quarter-finals for the first time in the history of the Copa America. Brazil successfully defended their 2004 title and won their eighth title at the Copa America. The Seleção qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa in 2009 .
