Uruguay lived up to his role as favorites. Even though it was only 1-1 in the duel with arch rivals Argentina and the team found it unusually difficult in the 2-1 win against hosts Chile, they showed their extra class in the 6-0 win against Brazil and were deserved to be Third time Copa America winner.

Without a coach
Argentina could not use their good starting position after the draw with Uruguay and already lost their title chance in the second game in a disappointing 1-1 against the hosts. So again only second place remained for Argentina.

Brazil disappointed across the board as defending champions. The Brazilians only achieved normal form in their opening win against Chile, but then they played well below their potential. The low point was the embarrassing 6-0 defeat against Uruguay. That was Brazil's biggest defeat until the 2014 World Cup

Chile played surprisingly well as hosts and should have deserved a better placement because of the performances shown. But of all things in the opening game against Brazil, the Chileans showed their weakest performance and lost 0: 1. But the subsequent 1: 1 draw against Argentina and the narrow 1: 2 defeat against Uruguay could already be seen as respectable successes.
