The Campeonato Sudamericano 1917 was the 2nd edition of the South American continental football championship and took place from September 30th to October 14th in Uruguay. All games were played in Parque Pereira in Montevideo. The best-attended game was also the last and decisive game of the tournament between the defending champion and high favorites Uruguay and Argentina, which took place in front of 40,000 spectators. With 10,000 spectators, the game between Brazil and Chile attracted the least number of visitors.

Uruguay defended their title from the previous year without losing points or conceding a goal.
