Antonio Márques Castro , also known as Antonio Márquez Castro , was a Uruguayan football player .
society
Goalkeeper Márques Castro first played for Dublin FC and fell there in 1915 to the people in charge of Peñarol through good performances in the Intermedia Divisional . He was signed up and in the following years, Roberto Chery, a promising talent from their own ranks, was initially transferred to the third team on the pretext that he still had to mature.
Márques Castro was a member of the Peñarol squad in the Primera División in 1916 and 1917 . While the Aurinegros in the league in each of these two years was runner-up behind Nacional, they won in 1916 at both the Copa Competencia and the Copa Competencia Internacional . At least in the last-mentioned final game, however, Márques Castro's rival Chery was in goal and delivered a convincing performance. The Copa La Transatlántica was won on April 19, 1916 as part of the inauguration of Las Acacias with a 3-1 victory over Nacional . Marques Castro was not on the field here. The Copa Aniversario , the Copa Jockey Club and the Copa Club Uruguay also decided the Aurinegros in their favor in that year, and in 1917 the Copa Albion also had the upper hand.
Because he had to accept four goals in two Clásicos in May and October 1917, and thus a total of eight goals, he was given the name Marques Cuatro (translation into German roughly: "Graf Vier"). In return, his rival Chery , who was preferred in the Clásico victory on June 29 at the Copa Albion of that year , convinced in return .
National team
Márques Castro was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team . In total, he completed at least four international matches. Appearances are recorded for him in the Copa Lipton 1908, the Copa Montevideo 1912, the Copa Newton 1916 and in a friendly match that year.
Márques Castro took part with the national team in the South American Championship in 1917 , in which Uruguay won the title. In the course of the tournament, however, he was not used.
