The trophy of the Copa de Competencia

The Copa de Competencia, also often referred to as the "Copa Competencia Chevallier Boutell" , Copa Competencia Rioplatense , Cup Tie Competition or "Tie Cup" , was a bilateral football club competition that has been played annually since 1900 between clubs from Argentina and Uruguay. The event was sponsored by Francis Hepburn Chevallier Boutell , President of the Argentine Association Football League (AAFL) .

Between 1900 and 1906, a total of four teams were eligible to start: two semi-finalists from the AAFL (who, according to the regulations, had to always play away in the semi-finals) and one semi-finalist each from the Uruguay Football Association League and the Federación Rosarina de Football. The final, which could also be a purely Argentine one, always took place in Buenos Aires , while the semi-finals were held in Montevideo and Rosario . In 1907 the rules were changed. The Argentine representative was henceforth determined within the framework of the " Copa de Competencia Jockey Club " . Again, only teams from the Buenos Aires and Rosario regions were allowed to compete in this competition. Its winner then played the final against the representative from Montevideo.

1In 1910 the final ended in a draw despite extra time and should be repeated in Montevideo. A week later, however, the international match between Uruguay and Argentina and the " Copa Lipton " took place there, during which the spectators whistled and threatened the Argentine team. As a result, a conflict arose between the two national football associations, which was also carried over to the clubs, so that the final was not repeated.
