Copa Lipton
The Copa Lipton was a soccer competition between the national soccer teams of Argentina and Uruguay . The trophy was donated by the Scottish tea magnate Sir Thomas Johnstone Lipton on the condition that the players of both teams should be native exclusively in their respective country. The competition was played a total of 29 times between 1905 and 1992, with only one match each year without a second leg, alternating between Argentina and Uruguay. From 1905 to 1917 and again in 1962, the meetings took place on August 15th . Until 1929, with a few exceptions, it was played regularly every year. In the event of a tie, the trophy went to the away team and the away team was allowed to determine the date and the rules for the next event. Since the last tournament in 1992 ended 0-0, the trophy remained in the care of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) according to the regulations . The record winner is Argentina with 17 titles.
Another trophy that Argentina and Uruguay played for on the same principle was the Copa Newton . Between 1906 and 1976, 27 games took place around them.
