Copa Newton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa Newton was a soccer competition between the national soccer teams of Argentina and Uruguay . The competition was played a total of 27 times between 1906 and 1976, with only one match each year without a second leg, alternating between Argentina and Uruguay. Until 1930, with a few exceptions, it was played regularly every year, after which it was only played sporadically. In the event of a tie, the trophy went to the away team. The record winner is Argentina with 17 titles.

Another trophy that Argentina and Uruguay played for on the same principle was the Copa Lipton . Between 1905 and 1992, 29 games were played around them.
