Antonio Urdinarán (born October 30, 1898 - † June 8, 1961 ) was a Uruguayan football player . The right defender was a member of the squad when Uruguay became Olympic champion in France in 1924 and won the South American Championship three times and several national championships with Nacional. He is the older brother of Santos Urdinarán who was also a successful footballer in that era.

society

The defender Urdinarán moved in 1917 from Defensor Sporting in Montevideo to Nacional in the Primera División where he stayed until 1927 or later. At that time Nacional won the championships of 1917, 1919, 1920, 1922, 1923 and 1924 as well as the Copa Competencia of 1919, 1921 and 1923. In early 1927 he was with Nacional on the club's historic North American trip.

National team

Urdinarán was also a member of the Uruguayan national team for which he completed 17 international matches between July 18, 1916 and December 17, 1922, in which he scored two goals.

He took part with the national team in the South American Championships of 1916 , 1917 , 1920 and 1922 , with Uruguay winning the title in 1916, where Urdinarán was not used, in 1917 and 1920. Many considered him the best defender in Uruguay in 1919, but it is said that for association policy reasons he was not considered for the 1919 South American Championship , which took place in Brazil and where Uruguay came second. In the Summer Olympic Games in 1924 celebrated Urdinarán with the squad of Celeste finally his greatest career success and was Olympic champion although it was no use.

It was also used at the Copa Newton in 1916, 1917, where Uruguay won the trophy, and in 1922, the Copa Lipton 1917 and 1922, the Copa Gran Premio de Honor Argentino 1920 and the Copa Gran Premio de Honor Uruguayo 1922.

  4. The Olympic Committee of France listed him in their general report on the 1924 Games as the right winger in the first round match against Yugoslavia. But this seems unlikely and is rarely replicated. In the other games, his brother Santos played in this position.
