The Copa América 1975 was the 30th edition of the South American continental championship in football and took place from July 17 to October 28 after an eight-year break, for the first time under this name. For the first time, all ten members of CONMEBOL were at the start.

Again there was a change in the competition mode. For the first time there was no tournament in the league system in a country, but for the first time it was played in a combination of group phase and knockout system with a return game. The preliminary round was made up of three groups with three participants each. The three group winners reached the semifinals, while Uruguay, as defending champions, automatically qualified for the semifinals. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decided, if it was the same, the lot. By this rule, Peru reached the final. In the final, if there was a tie after the return leg, a playoff was played on a neutral pitch, which was also necessary. This mode was retained for the next two competitions in 1979 and 1983 . With 1.028 million spectators there was the second best attendance of all previous tournaments and for the fourth time over a million, although the record from 1945 remained.

Peru won its second Copa América title after 1939 .
