Manoel Rezende de Mattos Cabral , known as Nelinho (born July 26, 1950 in Rio de Janeiro ), is a former Brazilian soccer player who played as a right-back during his playing days.
Career
In his 17-year career, which lasted from 1970 to 1987, he played for several well-known Brazilian clubs and won numerous titles. For the Brazilian national soccer team he played 28 times between April 1974 and June 1980. He took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany and was used there three times. He also took part in the 1975 Copa America , where he scored three goals in six games. At this tournament Brazil failed in the semifinals to Peru.
He also took part in the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 and played there four times (two goals). In the game for third place against Italy , he scored a remarkable goal when he turned the ball around Italy goalkeeper Dino Zoff outside the right penalty area with a lot of power and spin.
He also took part in the 1979 Copa America , where Brazil also failed in the semifinals. He scored a total of eight goals for Brazil.
