Argentina

After Diego Maradona was dismissed as Argentina coach after the 2010 World Cup , Sergio Batista took over the Albiceleste and the 2011 Copa America was his first major tournament in this position. He already won the gold medal in Beijing in 2008 as the coach of the Argentine Olympic team . In contrast to Maradona, Sergio Batista brought the two experienced players Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso back into the selection of Argentina.

Colombia

Before the start of the tournament, Colombia's national coach Hernán Darío Gómez, who took over the post for the second time, suffered two major setbacks. He had to do without his playmaker Giovanni Moreno (Racing Club), who suffered a cruciate ligament rupture , and goalkeeper David Ospina (OGC Nice), who was injured in training. Nelson Ramos replaced the injured goalkeeper.

Paraguay

Gerardo Martino, the national coach of Paraguay , actually wanted to resign after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but he was persuaded to stay in office until the 2011 Copa America. Then it should finally be over for him. Paraguay's coach caused a surprise when the squad was nominated for the Copa America 2011, he renounced the services of striker Óscar Cardozo (Benfica Lisbon), so the national coach sparked a lot of discussions.

Chile

In November 2010, Marcelo Bielsa resigned as a successful national coach from Chile after political intrigues in the Chilean football association. His resignation was a great loss. Then Claudio Borghi took over the heavy inheritance. The Football Association of Chile set the goal for the 2011 Copa América to reach the semi-finals.

Peru

After Peru's national team finished last in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and was then named the worst selection in history by the newspaper La República , they went to the Copa America 2011 as underdogs. After the 2010 World Cup, Uruguayan Sergio Markarián took over the position of National coach of Peru. The new coach was followed by bad luck. He suffered serious setbacks before the start of the tournament, four important legionnaires dropped out due to injuries, the striker Claudio Pizarro (Werder Bremen), the offensive player Jefferson Farfán (FC Schalke 04) and, most recently, defender Carlos Zambrano (FC St. Pauli) and midfielder Luis Ramírez (Corinthians São Paulo), both injured in preparation for the tough friendly against Senegal . In addition, one of the star players of this team, Juan Manuel Vargas , went into the tournament battered.
