history

Early traces indicate that the area was settled in the Middle Stone Age (sand dune finds near Obermaxfeld, Rosing and Stengelheim) and the Neolithic Age (stone axes, hammers and arrowheads, a bronze ax near Untermaxfeld).
In the years 1800 to 1802, many families emigrated from the Electoral Palatinate areas to the left and right of the Rhine and were settled in the Donaumoos by the Bavarian government. First Reformed people on the left bank of the Rhine were settled in Stengelheim, then Catholics on the left bank of the Donaumoos-Ach and finally people on the right bank of the Rhine. This colony was named after the first Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph Maxfeld , later Untermaxfeld , after Obermaxfeld was established north of it in 1803 . In 1805 there were 31 families (184 inhabitants) in Untermaxfeld and 21 families (135 inhabitants) in Obermaxfeld.
Stengelheim, the oldest settlement, was settled by Adrian von Riedl as early as 1795 , who also received lower jurisdiction upon application. The village was named after Stephan Freiherrn von Stengel , an essential promoter of the Donaumoos culture.
Rosing was founded in 1795. The settlement was laid out along the Zeller Canal.
Zitzelsheim was founded in 1808 and is named after the settler Michael Zitzelsberger.
Obergrasheim originally belonged to Berg im Gau and, like Grasheim (originally Untergrasheim ), is named after the Donaumoos supervisor Graßmeier.

In 1804, the first official Protestant parish in Old Bavaria was inaugurated with the Protestant parish of Untermaxfeld, but the parsonage was only built in 1812 and the church in 1828.
The Catholic parish of Sankt Josef in Untermaxfeld belongs to the deanery of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen in the diocese of Augsburg and was inaugurated in 1866 Church built in 1868 and replaced by a new building in 1988. Rosing and Zitzelsheim belong to the parish of Sankt Luzia in Zell .

Until 1 July 1972, the independent municipality belonged Untermaxfeld the Swabian district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the municipal reform in Bavaria to the enlarged now Upper Bavarian district of Neuburg an der Donau, the name on 1 May 1973. Neuburg-Schrobenhausen received . On January 1, 1975, the three moss communities of Klingsmoos , Ludwigsmoos and Untermaxfeld merged to form Königsmoos.
