history

Until the church is planted

Königsmoos belonged to the Rentamt München and Moosgericht of the Electorate of Bavaria. The largest part of the community was in the Bavarian part of the Moosgericht. Smaller parts around Untermaxfeld were also in the Duchy of Neuburg-Sulzbach . Settlement of the municipality only began from 1795.

The part of the municipality Stengelheim was created during the draining of the Donaumoos initiated by Baron Stephan von Stengel and was named after him.

The extraction of cultivated land is ancient. Efforts to cultivate the Danube moss are known as early as Roman times and in the 15th and 17th centuries.

In 1777 Karl Theodor von der Pfalz inherited the Electorate of Bavaria. In the same year, the governor of Neuburg, Count Pappenheim, suggested that the "Donaumoos" be drained. In the years 1778 to 1781, the natural beneficiary Johann Jakob Lanz von Berg im Gau created the scientific basis for the later drainage and cultivation of the Danube moss with his "main report".

In 1789, under the direction of Stephan Freiherr von Stengel, a commission was formed, which also included Johann Georg von Aretin and Adrian von Riedl , who drained the moss, in particular by creating the main and military canals. Around 250 km of canals were mostly drawn in 2 years. The first paved roads were laid from Berg im Gau to Altmannstetten and from Pobenhausen and Reichertshofen to Lichtenau.

In 1791, due to the predominantly mineral soils, settlement began from the east. At the suggestion of Baron von Aretin, the colonies were not laid out in the form of an ordinary village, but as street villages . The Königsmoos community came into being on January 1st, 1975.

Merger and incorporations

The municipality of Königsmoos was created on January 1, 1975 through the voluntary amalgamation of the three municipalities of Klingsmoos (738 inhabitants after 185 inhabitants moved from Sandizell to Klingsmoos on January 1, 1974), Ludwigsmoos (480 inhabitants) and Untermaxfeld (1150 inhabitants). The starting point for naming that the places under and Obermaxfeld after King Max I Joseph and Ludwigsmoos after King Ludwig I had been nominated. Klingsmoos was originally called Theresienfeld, named after Queen Therese of Bavaria , the wife of Ludwig I.

On 1 January 1977. areas came from the market Pöttmes , Aichach-Friedberg , and to the communities Langenmosen and Wagenhofen. On January 1, 1978, the Walda community was dissolved. An area with 63 inhabitants came to Königsmoos. Larger parts of the area were incorporated into the community of Ehekirchen . Finally, on May 1, 1978, parts of the dissolved communities of Dinkelshausen and Hollenbach were added. At the same time, the municipality of Berg im Gau ceded parts of the area.

Until the completion of the regional reform on May 1, 1978, the following parts of the Donaumoos fringe came to Königsmoos in detail:

on January 1, 1977

  • 199 residents from the Pöttmes market (part of Klingsmoos)
  • 166 inhabitants from the municipality of Langenmosen (part of Ludwigsmoos)

5 residents (grave mill) were given to the community of Langenmosen on January 1st, 1977.

As a result, the number of inhabitants had grown to 3,207 on May 1, 1978 and the total area to 4,083 ha.

Partner communities

Königsmoos maintains community partnerships with the two German communities Großkarolinenfeld near Rosenheim (since January 12, 2001) and Hergenfeld in Rhineland-Palatinate (since October 3, 2010).

Großkarolinenfeld, like Königsmoos, lies in a former fen and was - like Königsmoos - settled and made arable by Palatinate colonists at the instigation of Elector Karl Theodor at the end of the 18th century.

Hergenfeld is the birthplace of the electoral forest chamber director Johann Peter Kling , who played a key role in the cultivation of the Donaumoos , and who gave the Königsmoos suburb of Klingsmoos its name.

Danube moss level

The Danube moss level illustrates the sagging of the moorland

The lowering of the former moorland in the Donaumoos at the Donaumoospegel is impressive. This is an oak post that was hammered into the ground on October 4, 1860 and in 2006 protruded about 2.85 meters from the ground. This roughly corresponds to the sagging of the ground since 1836, because when the pile was driven in, the 1.18 meter sagging found between 1836 and 1860 was taken into account.
