Marco Andrés Estrada Quinteros (born May 28, 1983 in Viña del Mar ) is a Chilean football player .

Career

Estrada, the left-back, but can be used in central defense and in midfield, his professional career began in 2001 when Everton de Viña del Mar . He had previously played in the club's youth department. Estrade soon made his first professional appearances with the then second division team. At the end of the 2003 season, the team made it to the Primera División . At that time, the defensive player was already an integral part of the team and played a major role in the success. After a good first year in the top Chilean league, the slump followed. In order to improve, Estrada moved to league competitor CF Universidad de Chile in 2006 . There he was nicknamed El Cañonero azul because of his shooting strength from medium distance and when performing free kicks . Estrada celebrated winning the Apertura with Universidad in 2009. It was the defensive player's first championship win. As with CD Everton, Estrada was an important pillar within the team at Universidad. His good performances did not go unnoticed by European teams either. For the 2010/11 season, Estrada therefore decided to move to Europe, where he signed a contract with the French Ligue 1 representative HSC Montpellier .

National team

In January 2006, coach Nelson Acosta appointed him for the first time for the U-23 national team. In the first game against Denmark, he immediately scored his first goal. On September 7, 2007, he made his debut in the senior national team for the first time in the international match against Switzerland. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , he and Chile achieved an excellent second place behind group winners Brazil . He scored his only goal in qualifying with a precise free kick in the 4-0 win against Bolivia in Santiago. In May 2010 he was appointed to the squad for the 2010 Soccer World Cup . There he came to his first and only use during the entire tournament in the third game of the preliminary round. In the game against Spain , however, the all-rounder received the yellow-red card in the 37th minute and was expelled from the field. His team then dropped out of the competition in the round of 16.
