Martín Silva , full name Martín Andrés Silva Leites , (born March 25, 1983 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football goalkeeper .
Career
society
The goalkeeper, known as Flaco , started playing football at the age of four. At the age of fourteen he joined Defensor Sporting . There has been in the first team since the Clausura in 2002, made his debut that year under coach Ricardo "Tato" Ortíz as part of the home game against Plaza Colonia in the Primera División and was able to win the Uruguayan championship with his team in the 2007/08 season book. According to ESPN, since the 2006/07 season he has played 146 top division games (league and liguilla, status: start of Apertura 2006/07 to June 12, 2011) for Defensor and made ten appearances at the Copa Libertadores in the 2008/09 season. He was also used in four games of his club at the Copa Sudamericana 2008/09 and eight games at the Copa Sudamericana 2010/11. Another source shows him as of July 2002 a total of 211 games for Defensor. In early August 2011 he moved to Paraguay to Olimpia Asunción and signed a contract for the next five seasons. Until his last appearance on October 26, 2013, he was there since the Clausura 2011 , which ended with winning the Paraguayan championship for his Club Olimpia , in 80 league games and six or 16 matches of the Copa Libertadores 2012 and 2013 on the field. At the end of November 2013, he dissolved his contract with the Paraguayans. At the end of December 2013, he joined the Brazilian club Vasco da Gama . So far (as of July 24, 2016) he has played 49 games in Carioca 1 , 34 in Serie B and 21 in Serie A. He also played 17 times in the Copa do Brasil .
National team
At the U-17 World Cup in 1999 , Silva came to four appearances in the Uruguayan U-17 selection . He made 14 international appearances for the U-20 national team of Uruguay. With the Uruguayan U-20 , he took part in both the U-20 South American Championships in 2001 and those in 2003 . At the 2003 tournament in Uruguay, he played in at least five tournament games.
Silva is also a member of the Uruguayan senior team , for whom he made his debut in the international match against Algeria on August 12, 2009. National coach Óscar Tabarez called him into the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but he was not used there. He was also a member of the squad that contested the 2011 Copa America and won the title. There, however, regular goalkeeper Fernando Muslera completed all encounters with Uruguayan participation, so that he was again without a minute in a major tournament. On June 23, 2013, he then played his second appearance for the senior national team, when he was on the field at the Confederations Cup against Tahiti . In the two World Cup qualifying relegations against Jordan, he was also used due to an injury to the regular national goalkeeper Muslera. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , he was again part of the Uruguayan squad. In the tournament, however, goalkeeper Muslera played all of Uruguay's tournament encounters. In the second international friendly match after the World Cup, he was allowed to keep the Uruguayan goal for the fifth time in an international match against South Korea on September 8, 2014. Silva completed a total of seven national team games including his last game on September 8, 2015. As part of his senior national team career, he survived a period of 469 minutes without conceding until his 1-0 defeat against Costa Rica on September 8, 2015. This puts him in third place in the history of Uruguayan football behind Rodolfo Rodríguez (588 minutes, 1980 to 1981) and Ladislao Mazurkiewicz (578 minutes, 1969 to 1970).
