Teams from German-speaking countries

The U-17 of the DFB was able to qualify for the tournament for the third time in a row since 1995, but did not build on the success at the last World Cup when they reached the semi-finals. This time they were eliminated after the preliminary round after two goalless draws and one defeat. Both goalkeepers, Jan Schlösser and Dennis Eilhoff, as well as the defensive line, were able to convince, especially Florian Thorwart, Torsten Reuter and Michael Fink. Midfield and Sturm, on the other hand, lacked creativity and punch, which was evident from just one goal in three games. Despite this rather mediocre performance, three players made it into the senior national team of the DFB in the further course of their careers: Andreas Hinkel, Thomas Hitzlsperger and Andreas Görlitz, all of them tellingly more defensive players. With Florian Kringe and Michael Fink, there were two other Bundesliga players from this team, while the rest of the squad gained a foothold either in the second division or in amateur football.
