Joshua Blake Kennedy (born August 20, 1982 in Wodonga , Australia ) is a former Australian football player .
Career
Kennedy was a professional footballer from 1999 to 2015 and played for six German clubs from 2000 to 2009.
Beginnings
From 1999 to 2000, Kennedy played for the Australian club Carlton SC until he moved to Germany. After not being able to prevail in the Bundesliga at VfL Wolfsburg or at 1. FC Köln , he managed to gain a regular place after moving to Dynamo Dresden . Kennedy was appointed by selection coach Guus Hiddink to the Socceroos (Australian national team) team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he played twice as a substitute.
1. FC Nuremberg
After the World Cup, Kennedy moved to the first division club 1. FC Nürnberg . However, his third attempt in the top German division was not a good star: Even before the first game of the season he suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon and after the operation and other complications he was completely out of action in the 2006/07 season . Even before the 2007/08 season , he was substituted on on July 24th in the semi-finals of the DFL League Cup and on August 5th in the first round of the DFB Cup (each in the 63rd minute). Also on the first day of the league he came in the 59th minute and had eleven more missions by the end of the first half of the season, where he was three times in the starting eleven and only played the full time in the home game against VfB Stuttgart. He scored his first goal in the 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on October 20 (matchday 10). On September 20, he played his first international game with Nuremberg in the first round of the UEFA Cup . He was substituted on against Rapid Bucharest in the 74th minute.
Karlsruher SC
In January 2008, Kennedy moved to Karlsruher SC , where he signed a contract until 2011. At that time the club was in sixth place and thus clearly ahead of Nuremberg. In his first competitive game for KSC, Kennedy scored the first goal for the new club against his former employer Nuremberg, scoring four goals in the first five games. Because of his good start, he was voted Footballer of the Month for February. In the following five games, Kennedy didn't meet again. He then fell out injured until the end of the season and the KSC became the second worst team in the second half of the season, which in combination with the good first half of the season resulted in eleventh place.
At the beginning of the 2008-09 season , Kennedy plunged into a low performance. Although coach Edmund Becker enabled him to play twelve times in the starting line-up, the Australian didn't score a single goal and ultimately radiated so little danger that he lost his place to Edmond Kapllani at the end of the first half of the season . When Becker again promoted him to the starting line-up shortly before the start of the second half of the DFB-Pokal round of 16 against the second division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden , Kennedy could not convince again. After a disappointing performance, he was replaced in the 71st minute and then refused the obligatory clapping with the coach. As a result, the Australian was not nominated for the next league game in the Bundesliga. Kennedy then announced that he wanted to leave the club in winter if possible. However, this turned out to be difficult because, according to KSC manager Rolf Dohmen, there were no requests for the striker. In April Kennedy was finally pardoned by trainer Becker without having previously apologized for his behavior. 28 Match he was in the home game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the first time back in the starting and denied then by the end of the season every game from the start, and he was only in the last match at the 4: 0 against Hertha BSC with a brace on his first goals of the season came. Despite this victory, the KSC was relegated from the Bundesliga .
Nagoya Grampus
In June 2009 it was announced that Kennedy would leave the club and join the Japanese team Nagoya Grampus . In his first competitive game in the J. League for the Nagoya Grampus, he scored his first goal on matchday 18, July 18, 2009. Here he achieved the 1-0 lead against Kyōto Sanga , which then ended with 1: 1. Later in the season he made another five goals in the league. In September 2009 , Kennedy shot his team into the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League . He scored two important goals in the quarter-finals, one each in the return leg against the Kawasaki Frontale . Then they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Al-Ittihad .
In the 2010 season he reached the Japanese championship prematurely with the Nagoya Grampus and was top scorer in the J. League with 17 goals . In 2011 Kennedy got the top scorer again with 19 goals, but was only runner-up with the club.
In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , he was the top scorer of the Australian team with five goals and secured qualification for Australia with his 1-0 goal against Iraq on the last matchday .
