The J.League 1994 was the second season of the Japanese J.League . Twelve clubs took part in it. The regular season was played in two half series and began on March 12, 1994. After the end of the second half series on November 19, 1994, the winners of the two half series, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Verdy Kawasaki , played in two games for the Japanese championship. Here Verdy was able to defend the title he had won the previous season with two 1-0 wins.
mode
The season was held in two halves. In each half the clubs played against each other twice, once at home and once away. There were no ties; in the event of a tie after 90 minutes, the playing time was extended by two fifteen minutes, whereby the golden goal rule was applied. If it was still a draw after that, the winner of the game was determined by a penalty shoot-out .
As in the previous year, the table for each half series was drawn up according to the following criteria:
- Number of victories
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
After the end of a half-series, the club qualified with the most wins for the finals for the Japanese championship. The winner of the finals qualified as Japanese champion for the Asian Club Championship 1995/96 .
By increasing from 10 to 12 teams, the number of games to be completed per team changed; instead of 36, there were now 44 games to be played.
