Marius Johan Ooft (born June 27, 1947 ) is a former Dutch football player and coach.

Career

Ooft began his career at Feijenoord , where he played from 1964 to 1972.

From 1987 to 1988 he was the coach of the Japan Soccer League club Mazda (today: Sanfrecce Hiroshima). In May 1992 he also took over the post of coach of the Japanese national soccer team . At the Asian Cup in 1992 , he led the team to victory in Hiroshima. After Japan failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup , he resigned as national coach ( Japan-Iraq football match 1993 ). From 1994 to 1996 he was the coach of the J1 League club Júbilo Iwata . In 1998 Ooft became the trainer of Kyoto Purple Sanga . From 2002 to 2003 he was the trainer of the Urawa Red Diamond . In 2008 he returned to Júbilo Iwata.

In 2013 he was inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame .
