Antônio Benedito da Silva , better known as Toninho , (born March 23, 1965 in Campinas ) is a former Brazilian football player.

Career

The 1.86 meter tall midfielder began his career in 1985 with the club EC XV de Novembro (Jaú) . In 1985 Toninho moved to Portuguesa , where he was under contract for four years. In 1985 he played 19 league games and scored four times in the goal. The following year he played 28 league games and scored nine times. In 1988 he played 23 league games and scored seven goals. In his last season for Portuguesa, he appeared in 17 league games and scored four goals. In 1990 he signed a contract with Guarani FC , where he scored five goals in one season. In 1991 Toninho signed a contract with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , with which he was under contract for a year. During the season he played eight goalless league games.

After six years in Brazil, he moved to Japan for one season with the Yomiuri Giants , where he played 22 league games and scored 18 goals. He also played five games without a goal in the Kaiser Cup and played just as many games in the J. League Cup , where he could score ten times. For the Kaiser Cup and the J. League Cup, he signed a contract with Shimizu S-Pulse in 1992 . From 1993 to 1995 Toninho played for Shimizu S-Pulse. After he had some start-up difficulties in his first season (6 games / 3 goals), things went much better in 1994 (44 games / 22 goals) and 1995 (25 games / 11 goals). After three years with Shimizu S-Pulse, he returned to Brazil in 1996 and signed a contract with CR Vasco da Gama . There he scored two more goals in eleven league games before ending his active career as a professional footballer.
