The J1 League 2018 was the 26th season of the highest division of the Japanese J. League and the fourth under the name J1 League . Eighteen clubs took part in it. The season began on February 23, 2018 with the game between Sagan Tosu and Vissel Kobe and ended on December 2, 2018. Last year's champions Kawasaki Frontale were able to defend the title.
mode
The teams played a double round tournament in the calendar year, with one game against each other team taking place on their own pitch. The table was created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The club with the best result at the end of the season won the Japanese championship and qualified for the group stage of the 2019 AFC Champions League . Due to a deterioration in Japan in the AFC four-year ranking in 2017, the league lost the second fixed place in the group stage to the Chinese league , so the runner-up in the play-off round of the Champions League begins in addition to the third-placed . Should one of these three teams also win the 2018 Kaiser Cup , the fourth-placed team moves up. With the revival of the relegation, only the last two teams were relegated directly, the sixteenth now played in a single game against the winner of the J2 promotion playoffs to stay in class.
Attendees
A total of eighteen teams took part in the season. Here left Ventforet Kofu , Albirex Niigata and Omiya Ardija as worst teams in the preseason league towards J2 League 2018 . Ventforet Kofu rose to the J2 League for the third time after five years of relegation battle, Ōmiya Ardija had to leave the league after an interlude of two seasons. Albirex Niigata finally ended a total of fourteen seasons membership in the top Japanese division.
The three relegated teams were replaced by the champion of the J2 League 2017 , Shonan Bellmare , the runner-up V-Varen Nagasaki and the winner of the promotion playoffs Nagoya Grampus . After their relegation in 2016, Shonan Bellmare and Nagoya Grampus made the direct return to the House of Lords, Nagoya prevailed in the playoffs against JEF United Ichihara Chiba and Avispa Fukuoka . V-Varen Nagasaki, on the other hand, played for the first time in the club's history at the highest level of the Japanese league pyramid.
