FC Schalke 04
For the 2010/11 season Uchida moved to the German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 , where he received a contract until June 30, 2013. As a right back, he was supposed to replace Rafinha , who had moved to CFC Genoa . He played his first game for Schalke on the first day of the 2010/11 season against Hamburger SV . Uchida did not always play convincingly, but due to the lack of competition in his position, he played almost all games. While they disappointed in 14th place in the league, they achieved success in the Champions League and the DFB Cup . In the summer of 2012 he extended his contract to June 30, 2015. Over time, he became a regular in the right-back position. On matchday 10 of the 2011/12 season, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 3-2 defeat against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with the 2-2 equalization in the meantime for Schalke 04. Uchida was seriously injured during the 2013/14 season , so that he missed almost the entire second half of the season and the Champions League round of 16 against eventual tournament winner Real Madrid . Nevertheless, he was considered for the Japanese national team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and got fit in time.
Due to a patellar tendon irritation , Uchida missed the start of the 2014/15 season . This included the first-round game in the DFB Cup against Dynamo Dresden , the first four days of the Bundesliga and the opening game of the Champions League 2014/15 against Chelsea . He played his first game after his long injury on September 23, 2014, the 5th matchday, in a 3-0 win against Werder Bremen . A week later, the derby against Borussia Dortmund could be won. His contract extension to 2018 was announced on October 30, 2014. Uchida was on the field for the entire season up to matchday 21, mostly as a right full-back. After two more league games, he fell out from the 25th match day for the rest of the season due to renewed patellar tendon problems. During the season he came to 19 league games in which he was able to prepare three goals. Uchida also played seven games in the Champions League.
