societies
Youth clubs and first professional club
Rafinha's football career began in 1992 when, at the age of seven, an indoor football club in Londrina invited him to a trial session. At the age of 12 he came to the Paraná Soccer Technical Center , a football club based in Londrina, founded in 1994, which prepares 12 to 17-year-olds for professional football and in 2001, at the age of 16, to Londrina EC . In 2002 he realized his dream and moved - with the support and encouragement of his coach, Antonio Lopez, who recognized his talent - to the first division club Coritiba FC .
Change to Europe
FC Schalke 04
For the 2005/06 season he moved to Germany for first division club FC Schalke 04 , for whom he was on August 27, 2005 (3rd matchday) in a 1-1 draw in the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach with a substitution for Hamit Altıntop in the 81st minute Bundesliga debut. He scored his first Bundesliga goal in the following season, on November 24, 2006 (14th matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against VfL Bochum with the goal to make it 1-0 in the 19th minute.
CFC genoa
After five seasons for FC Schalke 04, most recently he was coached by Felix Magath , the right defender moved to the Italian first division club CFC Genoa for the 2010/11 season , for whom he played 34 of 38 league games; for the first time on August 28, 2010 (1st matchday) in a 1-0 win in the away game against Udinese Calcio . His first of two goals decided on February 16, 2011 (17th matchday) in the away game against local rivals Sampdoria Genoa .
Since CFC Genoa initially paid Schalke only 3.25 million euros of the transfer fee of seven million euros , the Bundesliga team turned on FIFA . Until January 2015, an intervention by FIFA, a ruling by the International Court of Justice for Sports, and the threat to deduct points from the club had no effect. On January 19, 2015, it was announced that Genoa had paid the outstanding sum including interest, together almost five million euros, in full.
FC Bayern Munich
After only one season in Italy, Rafinha returned to Germany; the Bayern Munich signed him for the season 2011/12 , and furnished him with a valid June 30, 2014 agreement. In his first season for Munich , he played 24 of 34 league games, for the first time on August 7, 2011 in the 0-1 defeat at the start of the season in the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Munich on October 20, 2012 in a 5-0 away win against Fortuna Düsseldorf with the goal in the 87th minute - five minutes after his substitution for Bastian Schweinsteiger . In his second season for Munich, he also contributed to the first triple triumph of a German club team.
Contrary to some expert opinions , Rafinha was able to assert himself as a regular player under the new coach Pep Guardiola in the first half of the 2013/14 season , benefiting from the transfer of Philipp Lahm to the central defensive midfield . On December 19, 2013, FC Bayern Munich announced the extension of the expiring contract for another three years until 2017. In his third season, Rafinha won the double . In 2015 the German championship was defended again. On November 7, 2015, he played his 100th Bundesliga game for Munich. He is the fourth Brazilian to achieve this mark for FC Bayern. On May 7, 2016, he became German champion for the fourth time in a row . In 2017 the German championship was won for the fifth time in a row and in 2018 for the sixth time. On September 15, 2018, Rafinha suffered a partial tear of the inner ligament on his left ankle in the Bundesliga match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . After the 2018/19 season, his contract expired and he left FC Bayern with a double from the German championship and cup victory .
Flamengo Rio de Janeiro
On July 1, 2019, Rafinha returned to his homeland and joined the first division club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , with whom he received a contract that ran until December 31, 2021. Rafinha made his first competitive appearance for FLA on July 14, 2019. In Série A , his club met at home on the tenth matchday of the season against the Goiás EC . In the 6: 1 success he was in the starting line-up and was substituted for Rodinei in the 59th minute when the score was 5: 1 . With the club he won the Copa Libertadores on November 23, 2019 . A day later, the preliminary decision in favor of Flamengo was made in the 2019 Brazilian championship and Rafinha was also able to celebrate this title.
Olympiacos Piraeus
In August 2020, Rafinha signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2022.
National team
In 2002, only 17 years old, he joined Brazil's U-20 national team and was a member of it until 2005. With her he took part in the World Cup in the Netherlands from June 10 to July 2, 2005 , played seven games and scored two goals. With his two goals, the 1-0 winner against Syria in the round of 16 and the 2-1 winner in the quarter-finals against Germany , he brought his team to the semi-finals , which, however, beat arch rivals Argentina (with Lionel Messi ; also goalscorer) was lost. He finished the tournament with his team in third place after the selection of Morocco on July 2, 2005 with 2-1 in stoppage time could be defeated.
In February 2008, he was first to the senior team invited and was part of the squad for the test international match on 6 February 2008 against the host selection of Ireland at, but remained without use. On March 26, 2008, he made his debut in London in the 1-0 victory of the Seleção over the selection of Sweden , when he came on for Dani Alves in the 73rd minute.
Rafinha was also participating in the Olympic football tournament in 2008 in Beijing , denied six games, including the play-off for bronze, of Brazil with 3: 0 was against the selection of Belgium. His nomination by national coach Carlos Dunga on July 8, 2008 cost the Brazilian association dearly, as Rafinha had traveled without his club's permission and the association was fined six figures. According to Rafinha, the association was responsible for the fine. On February 11, 2014, Luiz Felipe Scolari called back to the Seleçao , and on March 5, 2014, almost six years since his last international match, he played his second international match in a 5-0 win against South Africa in Soccer City in Johannesburg . On September 17, 2015 Rafinha was nominated for the first time again for the Seleção for the qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup against Chile on October 8, 2015 and against Venezuela on October 13, 2015 . In September 2015, however, he asked the Brazilian Association not to be nominated in the future. Although Rafinha took on German citizenship in December 2015 and has not yet played a competitive game for Brazil's senior national team, it is not possible to switch to the DFB . The reason for this is that Rafinha played competitive games for the Brazilian U-20s at the U-20 World Cup in 2005. A change of association is only permitted, however, if the player already possessed the second nationality at the time of playing in a competitive game for the old association. 20 months later he was nominated again for the first time for the Brazilian national team by the new coach Tite ; against Argentina he made his comeback at the Selecão on June 9, 2017 .
