The J.League Division 1 2009 was the seventeenth season of the highest division of the Japanese J.League and the eleventh under the name Division 1 . Eighteen clubs took part in it. The season started on March 7th and ended on December 5, 2009; Between May 24 and June 20, no games were played due to several encounters between the Japanese national team during this period.
The championship was won for the third time in a row by Kashima Antlers , for the team from East Kanto it was the seventh Japanese championship. For the AFC Champions League 2010 , the second Kawasaki Frontale , the fourth Sanfrecce Hiroshima and the winner of the Imperial Cup , Gamba Osaka, placed next to Kashima . For the first time, the three worst teams relegated directly, direct relegated to Division 2 2010 were the table sixteenth Kashiwa Reysol , the seventeenth Ōita Trinita and bottom of the table and J.League founding member JEF United Ichihara Chiba .
mode
As in the previous season , the clubs faced each other twice in a double round tournament , once at home and once away. There were three points for a win; in the case of a draw, each team received one point. The final table was therefore created according to the following criteria:
- Number of points scored
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Results of the games among themselves
- Decision game or coin toss
The club with the best result at the end of the season won the Japanese championship. The best three teams qualified for the AFC Champions League 2010 , should one of these teams also win the Kaiser Cup 2009 , the fourth-placed team moved up. After the increase in the J.League Division 2 field for the 2009 season , the relegation games were not continued, instead the number of direct relegated teams was increased; the three worst teams relegated to the J.League Division 2 2010 .
Attendees
A total of eighteen teams took part in the season. The two previous climbers Tokyo Verdy and Consadole Sapporo left Division 1 directly at the end of the previous season. The season was very different for both teams; While Consadole was already relegated long before the end, Verdy maintained a place above the direct relegation zone for much of the season, until rivals JEF United won against Júbilo Iwata and Verdy, who had the same points as Júbilo but had the worse goal difference, with a win on the last day of the game pushed past to the saving fifteenth place.
After the events on the last day of the match, the team from Iwata faced Vegalta Sendai in the relegation . Ultimately, the accuracy of Júbilo midfielder Takuya Matsuura helped the sky blues to avoid relegation; the important equalizer in the 1-1 first leg in Sendai followed by Matsuura with both goals in the 2-1 home win in the second leg.
So there were two promoters from the J.League Division 2 2008 . Master Sanfrecce Hiroshima had coped with relegation from Division 1 at the end of the 2007 season and managed to return directly to the House of Lords. Sanfrecce was accompanied by Montedio Yamagata , a newcomer from northern Japan, who competed in the Japanese top division for the first time.
