Daisuke Ichikawa ( Japanese 市 川 大祐 , Ichikawa Daisuke ; born May 14, 1980 in Shimizu , Shizuoka Prefecture ) is a Japanese former football player . He was mostly used as a full-back or in midfield .

Ichikawa played from 1996 in the youth team of the J-League club Shimizu S-Pulse . When he was still in high school, he made his debut as a professional in the J-League against Consadole Sapporo on March 21, 1998. He scored his first goal on November 14 of the same year against JEF Ichihara .

On April 1, 1998, he made his debut in the national team against South Korea . At this point in time, at 17 years and 322 days, he was the youngest national player in Japanese football history. However , he was not appointed to the 1998 World Cup .

As a result, Ichikawa celebrated some successes with his club Shimizu. In 1999 the second stage of the season was won, in 2000 the Asian Cup Winners' Cup and in 2001 the Emperor's Cup . With these successes, he and Alex, who later moved to Urawa , formed a pair of wing tongs that the opponents feared .

He was called back to the national team by the new national coach Philippe Troussier and was part of the squad at the 2002 World Cup in his own country. There he prepared after his substitution in the game against Tunisia with a cross for the decisive 2-0 by Hidetoshi Nakata , which meant the move into the second round.

In the next few years he was thrown back due to injuries, which meant he was no longer considered for the national team and only made a few appearances in the club. However, Ichikawa fought his way back into Shimizu's regular eleven in the 2005 season.
