Seigō Narazaki ( Japanese 楢 崎 正 剛 Narazaki Seigō ; born April 15, 1976 in Kashiba , Nara Prefecture ) is a Japanese former football player . He played in the position of goalkeeper. He was active for Nagoya Grampus for twenty seasons .

Career

Narazaki played for Kashibashi Junior High School and Nara Ikuei High School in his youth . After graduating from high school, he began his professional career in 1995 at the J.League Club Yokohama Flügels and immediately prevailed as a regular goalkeeper in his first season. The following year he received his first invitation to the national team and made his international debut two years later on February 15, 1998 in the game against Australia, after he had made a significant contribution to winning the Japanese Cup at his club.

When the Yokohama wings were dissolved in 1999, he moved to Nagoya Grampus , with whom he won the Imperial Cup again in the first year. He has been elected to the best team of the season four times in the J.League, and Narazaki is the first goalkeeper in the top Japanese division to reach 100 clean sheets.

The experienced goalkeeper was in the goal of the Japanese national team in both second place at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup and when they won the AFC Asian Cup three years later. He fought for a long time with Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi for number one in the Japanese goal. While Kawaguchi was preferred in France in 1998 and Germany in 2006, Narazaki, who had basically been the regular goalkeeper since 1997, stood between the posts at the 2002 World Cup and played both the three preliminary round matches and the round of 16 against Turkey. At the 2006 World Cup , however, he had to make way for Kawaguchi. After the coach change, Narazaki was no longer appointed to the squad until 2009.

In the 2010 season he won the championship title with his team and was named Footballer of the Year in the J. League.
