Swiss Chess Federation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Chess Federation (SSB) is the umbrella organization for chess players in Switzerland . He is a member of the world chess federation FIDE .

The Swiss Chess Federation calculates a guide number for its members , which is published every two months in the so-called guide list.

The SSB was created on June 17, 1995 from the merger of the two Swiss chess federations SASB and SSV . The championships introduced by the two associations will continue to be organized by the SSB, so that two championships are played annually for team and individual competitions: the Swiss group championship (SGM) and the Swiss team championship (SMM) for teams, the Swiss individual championship (SEM) and the national tournament (BT) for individual players.

In 2000 the SSB joined the Swiss Olympic Association (SOV).

SASB

The Swiss Workers ' Chess Federation ( SASB) was founded in September 1922 by the workers ' chess sections of Basel, Bern, Olten, Winterthur and Zurich at a conference in Olten. Heinrich Diggelmann, who organized the conference, became the first president of the association, which was initially still subordinate to the German Workers' Chess Federation as a foreign section . At the conference in May 1926, the step towards independence was finally taken with the adoption of its own statutes.

In 1930 the SASB carried out team championships for the first time under the name group championship SGM, and ASV Zurich won. At first this championship was only organized irregularly. When the Swiss team championships were introduced in 1951 under the care of the civil SSV, the group championship lost some of its importance. From 1972 to 1984 this championship was played every 2 years, but annually from 1984 onwards.

Organizers of the SASB

  • Otto Burkhalter, Central President 1956–1962 (* July 28, 1926; † March 5, 2001)
  • Hans Schneider, headed the correspondence chess division for 23 years (born November 17, 1927)

SSV

The SSV was founded on June 2, 1889 in Zurich under the name of the Swiss Chess Association. In 1964 he changed his name to the Swiss Chess Association SSV. From October 1900 he published the Swiss chess newspaper SSZ.

The SSV always determined the official national champions. From 1951 the SMM team championships were held, at that time with 24 teams in 3 leagues.

For this first SMM 24 teams registered. These were divided into a division depending on the size of the club. The highest class was the National League A with the four teams Basel, Bern, Lausanne and Lucerne. In the National League B Nimzowitsch, St. Gallen and went to court, Winterthur also four teams. The remaining 16 teams were assigned to the third category, which was divided into five groups. The first SMM leader was Rudolf Hedinger. The first winner of the National League A was the Basler Schachgesellschaft.

In the same year the SSV became a member of FIDE.
