Hans Jakob Schudel

Hans Jakob Schudel (born August 28, 1915 ; † February 2, 2004 in Oberwil BL ) was a Swiss chess player and official.

Career

Chess player

Schudel was a member of the Basel Chess Society and the Birseck Chess Club . With these he became team champion in Switzerland. Several times he was appointed to the national team. In 1952 he took third place in the Erwin Voellmy memorial tournament in Basel behind Milan Vidmar and Max Euwe . In 1986 he won the Swiss Senior Championship.

From 1952, Schudel was a member of the central board of the Swiss Chess Club , from 1957 to 1961 in the office of central president. From 1957 he represented the Swiss Chess Club at the World Chess Federation FIDE . In 1974 he became Vice President of FIDE with special responsibility for the zones of Western Europe and Africa.

For these organizational activities he was made an honorary member of FIDE (1974), the Swiss Chess Federation and the Birseck chess club .

Chess composition

In 1985, Schudel was appointed International Chess Composition Referee .
