The Chess Society Winterthur is a chess club from Winterthur founded in 1846 and thus the second oldest chess club in Switzerland. The Winterthur workers' chess club was founded in 1921 and merged with the chess society in 2015.

The chess company Winterthur provides a national league A team in the chess club championships. With a total of 10 teams in all leagues, SG Winterthur is the club with the most teams in the Swiss Club Championships. The Winterthur chess club has held tournaments against the Zurich chess company since it was founded . The NLA team won the Swiss team championships in 1972, 1981 and again in 2017 . The Hotel Banana City in Winterthur is used for the NLA and NLB games, otherwise the Alte Kaserne is the place of the chess club.

Well-known chess players at SG Winterthur include P. Harikrishna , Fabiano Caruana , Artur Jussupow , Richard Forster , Martin Ballmann , Andreas Huss , Nedeljko Kelecevic , Daniel King , Nico Georgiadis and Noël Studer .
