P. Harikrishna ( Pentala Harikrishna ; born May 10, 1986 in the village of Vinjanam Padu , Prakasam District , Andhra Pradesh ) is an Indian chess grandmaster .

Life

P. Harikrishna showed his exceptional talent early on: in 1996 he became U10 world champion in Menorca . In 2000 his rating rose to over 2500. He received the grandmaster title at the age of 15 in 2001, making him - V. Anand received this title at a later age - the youngest grandmaster in India. That year he won two major tournaments in London: the Commonwealth Championship and a very strong Open. At the turn of 2001/2002 he shared first place in Hastings with Alexei Barsov .

At the Indian championship in 2002 he was second behind K. Sasikiran . The 2003 championship ended with the same position at the top. In the same year Harikrishna won the Sharjah tournament . In 2004 he won the U20 World Junior Championship in Kochi . The year 2005 also got off to a promising start: at the tournament in Bermuda he shared first place with Boris Gelfand . At 500,000 dollars doped and extremely strong field open from Minneapolis he became shared second place, u. a. together with Gata Kamsky . In July 2005, Harikrishna won Taiyuan, China . As junior world champion in 2004, Harikrishna qualified for the 2005 World Chess Cup , where he failed in the third round to Alexei Drejew . In 2007 he took part in the World Chess Cup again, but failed in the first round. In 2011 he became Asian champion in Mashhad , after ranking ahead of Yu Yangyi and Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn . In the same year he took part in the Chess World Cup for the third time, where he failed after an opening win against Maxim Rodshtein to Dmitri Jakowenko .

In 2012 he won the B group at the Corus chess tournament with 9 points from 13 games and was the winner of the 28th Open in Cappelle-la-Grande .

Harikrishna lives in Hyderabad and Prague . Since March 2018 he has been married to the Serbian chess player Nadezda Stojanovic, whom he met in 1998 at a youth tournament.

National team

Harikrishna was appointed to the Indian national team for the first time in 2000 and has since participated in the 2000 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 , 2016 and 2018 Chess Olympiads . He also took part in the 2010, 2011 and 2015 World Team Championships (where he finished third with the team in 2010), the Asian Team Championships in 2003, 2009 and 2012 (which he won with India in 2009, while he was second in 2003 and 2012 respectively occupied), at the chess competitions of the Asian Games 2006 and 2010 as well as the chess competition of the Indoor Asian Games 2009.

Harikrishna played from 2006 to 2009 in the German Federal Chess League for the OSG Baden-Baden , with which he was German team champion in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 and took part twice in the European Club Cup , where he came second in 2008. From the 2011/12 season to the 2014/15 season he played for the Eppingen chess club , and since the 2015/16 season he has been playing for the Solingen chess company , with which he was champion in the first season. In the Austrian Bundesliga he plays for SK MPÖ Maria Saal in the 2016/17 season .

Harikrishna won the Chinese team championship in 2008 , 2016 , 2018 and 2019 with Shanghai Jianqiao University and China Mobil Shanghai Chess Club , respectively , and he also played in this competition in 2009 for Bank of Qingdao and 2012 for Chengdu Bank . Harikrishna was also active in the Bosnian Premijer League (which he won in 2009 with the ŠK Bosna Sarajevo ), in the Swiss National League A for the Winterthur chess company and in the Czech Extra League at 1.
