German Chess League 2017/18
The 2017/18 season was the 38th season of the German Chess League . The defending champion was OSG Baden-Baden . Newcomers from the 2nd Bundesliga were SK Norderstedt (group north), SV 1920 Hofheim (group west) and SF Deizisau (group south). No club from the 2nd Bundesliga East exercised the right of promotion.
While Deizisau and Hofheim achieved relegation, Norderstedt, together with FC Bayern Munich and SG Speyer-Schwegenheim, had to relegate directly. In purely sporting terms, the team from MSA Zugzwang 82 would have been the fourth relegated team, but they stayed in the class as SK Schwäbisch Hall withdrew their team.
After the three-day final round in Berlin, the OSG Baden-Baden and the Schachgesellschaft Solingen were tied at the top, so that the decision on the German championship was postponed to a playoff with home rights for the OSG Baden-Baden, which led by board points. This got the upper hand on May 24, 2018 and was again German team champion . For the game of the season, the winning game of Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (OSG Baden-Baden) against David Navara (SV Mülheim-Nord) was chosen.

This time with only two board points in front of SV Werder Bremen in third place, Hockenheimer lost just under on the fourth matchday against SF Deizisau , on the sixth against FC Bayern Munich and on the seventh against the USV TU Dresden , before they were in the final round against the OSG Baden-Baden won two games on matchday 13, but lost four games.
