SG Speyer-Schwegenheim is a German chess club whose first team played in the German Chess League from 2016 to 2018 .
history
The SG Speyer - Schwegenheim was officially created in July 2012 through the merger of the chess clubs SC Speyer 1911 and SC Schwegenheim 1983. SC Speyer is one of the oldest chess clubs in the Palatinate and experienced the end of the 1940s by winning the Palatinate team championship in 1948 and 1949 its first heyday. In the following decades, SC Speyer could no longer build on these successes. The SC Schwegenheim was founded in 1983 and was successful in the district and district class. In 2009 SC Schwegenheim initiated discussions about a merger. These were promoted in the following years, so that in July 2012 the Speyer-Schwegenheim 2012 chess community could emerge.
In the 2015/2016 season, the young club achieved the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga South and thus promotion to the Bundesliga . This class could be held in the following season, so that SG Speyer-Schwegenheim also competes in the Bundesliga chess league in the 2017/2018 season. In the 2017/18 season, SG Speyer-Schwegenheim took 14th place and was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2018/19 season, the direct rise was achieved.
