The Schachgesellschaft Solingen e. V. (until 1996 Solinger SG 1868 , until 2009 Schachgesellschaft 1868-Aljechin Solingen ) is a traditional and successful German chess club. The SG plays in the national chess league and besides the Hamburger SK is the only club that has belonged to the 1st Bundesliga without interruption since its introduction in 1980.

history

The club emerged in 1996 from the merger of the Solinger Schachgesellschaft 1868 and SG Aljechin Solingen clubs . It is based in Solingen and currently has nine teams from the district to the federal level. The German Chess League team is one of the most successful teams in Germany. Her successes include two victories in the European Cup for club championships (1976 and 1990), as well as winning the German team championships in 1969 , 1971 , 1972 , 1973 , 1974 , 1975 , 1980 and after the introduction of the Bundesliga: 1980/81 , 1986 / 87 , 1987/88 (the last three championship successes with the help of ex-world champion Boris Spasski ), 1996/97 and 2015/16 , a total of 12 German championship titles. In 1986, 2006 and 2009 the club won the German Team Cup. 1986, 1996, 2000 and 2002 he won the German blitz chess team championships . In 2016 SG Solingen became German club champions in the U14w.

Personalities of the association

From 1963 onwards, Herbert Scheidt († May 2018) worked in key positions (game director, first chairman, etc.) for the club and was involved in all the successes of the first team, including as a player in 1974. As the team manager of the first team, he was the longest-serving team captain in the Bundesliga.

Besser, Lautier and Evertz (2002)

Joël Lautier (Vice President of the French Chess Federation) played for several years for the Solingen chess club, with which he won the German Blitzmannschaftsmeisterschaft in Solingen in 2002. The photo on the right shows Hans Besser ( German champion 1967 ) and Joël Lautier as well as Egon Evertz , the former chairman and sponsor of the Solingen association. In May 2002 the German Chess Federation expressed its gratitude and recognition in the form of an honorary certificate.

1. Chairman of the association is Oliver Kniest. The second team currently plays in the 2nd Bundesliga West. The club had 130 members on January 1, 2017, making it the largest chess club in the Bergisch-Land chess district.
