The chess department of FC Bayern Munich is one of eight subsidiary departments of the soccer club FC Bayern Munich . It was created in 1980 through the integration of the Anderssen Bavaria chess club . The men's team was nine-time German team champion between 1983 and 1995 and the 1992 European Cup winner . For several years now, the men's team has been commuting between the first and second Bundesliga chess leagues , and the same applies to the women's team.

history

When the single-track Bundesliga was founded in 1980, the Munich chess club Anderssen Bavaria was integrated into FC Bayern as a chess department. The club SC Anderssen Bavaria, founded in 1908, had taken part in the final round of the German championship the year before .

Thanks to the financial support of chess patron Heinrich Jellissen , the department quickly became one of the most successful German chess clubs. Between 1983 and 1995 she won the German team championship title nine times. In 1992 she celebrated victory in the European Cup . During this time, the grandmasters Robert Hübner , Artur Jussupow and Zoltán Ribli played for the Munich team.

After Jellissen's death in December 1994, the department ran into financial difficulties. The executive committee of FC Bayern under the leadership of Franz Beckenbauer , who referred to this department as "Klötzleschieber", decided to limit itself to a single professional team, the soccer team. The club therefore withdrew from the Bundesliga chess division in the Oberliga Bayern. In the 1999/2000 season, the men's team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga South . In 2008, the men's team made it back to the 1st Bundesliga and played there until 2011. In 2013, they were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga again. After the descent in 2018, the direct resurgence took place in 2019.

In 2002 the women's team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga and in 2016 to the 1st Bundesliga.

In the 2019/20 season , the grandmasters Niclas Huschenbeth , Sebastian Bogner , Valentin Dragnev and Klaus Bischoff are registered for FC Bayern Munich.
