The first team, previously called MEV , continued to play in the 1965/66 major league season under the name of FC Bayern Munich and ended up in third place.

At the end of the first two-pronged league season 1966/67 , the team took second place after the main round of the group south, which entitled to participate in the relegation round , the promotion round to the Bundesliga. With the first place in the table, FC Bayern Munich rose to the Bundesliga and also won the DEV Cup , which was played between the two winners of the relegation rounds South and West.

FC Bayern Munich belonged to the Bundesliga for two seasons until its ice hockey department was dissolved in 1969. There he missed the championship round with a 4th and a 6th place in the group south (6 teams), but secured relegation in the relegation round.

In May 1968, FC Bayern bought the team from the regional division ESV Herrsching , which played Bayern's 1b in the 1968/69 season.

In 1969, the ice hockey department was dissolved by the president Wilhelm Neudecker on the intervention of Bayern manager Robert Schwan . According to Schwan, the department had made a loss of 100,000 DM . The Augsburg EV - represented by Curt Frenzel - bought the entire team, including equipment, from FC Bayern Munich - represented by Robert Schwan - for the amount of 135,000 DM. The players not required by the AEV were sold to other clubs.
