Leonhard ("Hartl") Waitl (born April 5, 1939 in Füssen ; † March 7, 2010 ibid) was an ice hockey player (defender) and a member of the Hall of Fame for Germany .

Career

First Hartl Waitl was active in the senior division for his parent club EV Füssen in the top ice hockey league between 1957 and 1966 and was German champion in 1958, 1959, 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1965. Together with Paul Ambros they formed an international pair of defenders. He then moved to the league for the ice hockey team of FC Bayern Munich - also due to attending the master's school there - and rose with her again to the ice hockey Bundesliga . After the FC Bayern ice hockey team was dissolved in the summer of 1969, Curt Frenzel, then president of Augsburg's EV , secured the complete transfer rights to the Munich team. In this context, Waitl moved from Munich to Augsburg, with Curt Frenzel only engaging Waitl after a vote by the Augsburg team. In 1972 he moved back to EV Füssen and won the German championship again in 1973 . After the 1973/74 season he ended his playing career.

In the national ice hockey team Leonhard Waitl came to over 100 appearances including u. a. at the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 , 1964 and 1968 .

On March 10, 1963, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements .
