Curt Frenzel
Curt Alexander Frenzel (born October 24, 1900 in Dresden , † January 30, 1970 in Augsburg ) was a German educator , social democratic journalist and sports official .
Life
Frenzel had been a member of the SPD since 1922 and from 1928 to 1933 editor of the SPD-affiliated Volksstimme in Chemnitz. In 1933 he was banned from working and was placed under police supervision for ten years. After working as an editor in Regensburg, he went to Augsburg in 1945 as editor-in-chief and co-editor.
There he and Johann Wilhelm Naumann had received the license for the Schwäbische Landeszeitung (since 1959 Augsburger Allgemeine ) from the American military administration on October 30, 1945. After Naumann had founded his own newspaper, the current sole publisher Frenzel hired the former managing director of the Nazi newspaper “Augsburger National-Zeitung” as a publishing manager. Frenzel turned away from the SPD and towards the CSU . Franz Josef Strauss in particular was one of the friends of the former Social Democrat. Strauss had offered Frenzel a Bundestag candidacy for the CSU, but Frenzel refused. Frenzel also came to terms with the Catholic Church, which is dominant in Bavarian Swabia, and maintained close contacts with the Augsburg Bishop Josef Stimpfle .
In 1962 Frenzel took over the presidency of HC Augsburg , which again took on the traditional name Augsburger EV (AEV) during his tenure . During his tenure, the city of Augsburg started the roofing of the artificial ice stadium on Schleifgraben and completed it after his death. The stadium bears his name .
