Aachen Chess Club 1856

The Aachener Schachverein 1856 eV is one of the oldest German chess clubs . It was founded on October 13, 1856 on the initiative of Major Hermann von Hanneken .

history

In 1868 he organized a championship tournament on the occasion of the 7th Rhenish Chess Congress , which Max Lange won in a playoff against Adolf Anderssen . Other participants were Johannes Hermann Zukertort , Wilfried Paulsen and Emil Schallopp . Louis Paulsen and Zukertort gave blind simultaneous performances .

In 1877 the Aachen chess club was a co-founder of the German Chess Federation . In 1933, 1934 and 1935 the club hosted the German championship . In 1933 Efim Bogolyubov won ahead of Kurt Richter , in 1934 Carl Carls won and in 1935 Kurt Richter won. To mark its 100th anniversary, the club hosted the final round of the German team championship in 1956, which was won by the Hamburg SK of 1830 . From 1985 to 1994 the association organized the Wilhelm-Krantz memorial tournaments .

Well-known chess players who have played or are still playing for the Aachen Chess Club include Hans Besser , Vladimir Budde , Ricardo Calvo Mínguez , Norbert Coenen , Thomas Koch , Bogdan Lalić , Wladimir Lasarew , Matthias Röder , Christian Seel , Hans-Hubert Sonntag , Hans-Hilmar Staudte , Jan Timman , Thibaut Vandenbussche and Gerard Welling .

The Aachen chess club is currently playing in the 2nd Bundesliga West (as of 2015/16).

  • 1951 to 1958 and 1960 to 1962 member of the federal class, in 1954 shared runner-up, 1955 runner-up after losing a playoff against the Düsseldorf chess society
  • 1974 Champion of the Oberliga through a playoff against SG Porz and qualification for the newly founded four-part Bundesliga

  • 1989 Thomas Koch wins the German U17 youth championship in Berlin . When he won his first victory in Töging in 1988, he was a member of DJK Arminia Eilendorf in 1928 .
  • 1995, 2000 and 2009 promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga West (direct relegation in each case)

  • 1995 fourth at the German Blitzmannschafts Championship
  • 2000 FIDE Master Thomas Koch wins the German Blitz Individual Championship in Gladenbach.
