Christian Seel (born December 28, 1983 in Troisdorf ) is a German chess player .

Life

Christian Seel studied economics at the University of Bonn . He is an assistant professor at Maastricht University .

He is international champion (since July 2004) and was a member of the German national team. He was mainly trained by Thomas Jackelen , but he also received training from Christopher Lutz during his time at SG Porz and from Rustam Kasimjanov at Godesberger SK . In the meantime, the Troisdorf native is himself a state youth trainer for the SBNRW (Chess Association of North Rhine-Westphalia).

Successes in chess

At the German youth individual championships U18 (in June 2001) in Willingen he was behind Thomas Pähtz jun. and Stanislaw Korotkjevich third. In May 2002 he won the Open City Championship of Schweinfurt , in July 2002 the Godesburg Open of the Godesberger SK . At the NATO championship in Høvelte ( Denmark ) in September 2003 he was team champion with the Bundeswehr and second in the individual competition. In October 2003 he won the Gocher Open. At the Open International Bavarian Chess Championship in Bad Wiessee in November 2003 , Seel received the rating prize for the best young person. In February 2004, he achieved his third IM norm at the Gibele.com Masters in Gibraltar . In March 2005 he won the International Youth Tournament in Los Llanos de Aridane . He became German internet champion U25 in April 2005. With the Godesberg team he was first NRW Cup team champion in 2005 and then in March 2006 in Herford NRW Blitz team champion (with Kasimjanov on board 1).

He came to Godesberger SK via SG Porz , for whom he played in the German Chess League in the 2005/06 season . Because of a longer study stay in Spain he was registered lower class in the 2006/07 season, namely with SG Niederkassel , with which he was able to reach the finals of the North Rhine-Westphalian lightning team championship on the top board. From the 2007/08 season to the 2009/10 season he played in the 1st Bundesliga with Sportfreunde Katernberg , in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons at SC Remagen , then at Aachener SV , mostly in the 2nd Bundesliga West as well as in the 1st Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season. In Belgium he used to play for Namur Echecs , in the 2013/14 season he was Belgian team champion with KSK 47 Eynatten , and in the 2014/15 season he plays for KSK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis . In Austria he played for Wüstenrot SIR Salzburg in the 2010/11 season , and in the Dutch Meester class he has played for Schaakvereniging Voerendaal since 2012 (since 2018 SV Zuid-Limburg ).

In February 2015 he was on the 61st place in the German Elo ranking.

Success in Shogi

In the Shogi he has the master rank 2nd Dan and is as of July 2013 with an Elo number of 1864 in fourth place in the German rankings. He won a tournament in Enschede in January 2011 , finished second at the Tokin tournament in The Hague in March 2011 and won a tournament in Ludwigshafen in May 2011 . In January 2012 he was able to defend his title in Enschede and at the end of the month he became German champion in Heigenbrücken .
