KSK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis

KSK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis is a chess club in Eupen in the German-speaking Community of Belgium . The club won a total of eight Belgian national championships.

History of the club

KSK Rochade Eupen Kelmis was created in 1989 through the merger of SK Rochade Eupen and SK Kelmis from the city of Eupen and the municipality of Kelmis .

The chess club SK Rochade Eupen was founded in 1958. In 1960 he organized a lively chess game in which Georg Kieninger played against Albéric O'Kelly de Galway . In 1969, SK Rochade Eupen started in the 3rd division of the Belgian Interclub League and rose in 1974 to the 2nd division. In 1978 he organized the Belgian individual championship (winner Richard Meulders ) and was promoted to the 1st division. In 1979 the club went back to the 2nd division. After the merger, SK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis rose again in 1991 and has been in the 1st division since then. Between 1994 and 2001 the club was Belgian team champion eight times in a row. Since 1995 he has participated in the European Club Cup a total of seventeen times . In 1996 the club reached the final of the preliminary round in Paris , qualified for the finals in Budapest and was 14th of 16 teams. From 1991 to 2000 the association organized the international CERA Chess Open every year as an active chess tournament in Eupen. In 1994, 1997 and 1999 he hosted the preliminary round of the European Club Cup . In 2003 he organized the Belgian individual championship in Eupen (winner Geert Van der Stricht for men, Irina Gorshkova for women), and in 2008 (winner Bruno Laurent for men and Wiebke Barbier for women). With its 50th anniversary, the club became royal in 2008 and has been called the Royal Chess Club Rochade Eupen-Kelmis since then . The 50th anniversary was celebrated, among other things the club organized an underwater chess event.

Eckhard Rößler has been president of the association since 2012. Before that, since 1968 it was Günter Delhaes , who was also President of the Royal Chess Federation of Belgium several times .
