Igor Wladimirowitsch Glek ( Russian Игорь Владимирович Глек ; born November 7, 1961 in Moscow ) is a Russian chess player , trainer and author.
Life
Igor Glek has a degree in industrial engineering from Moscow University since 1983. Until 1986 he worked as a businessman. He then did military service in the Soviet Army for two years. He has been a professional chess player since 1989. He finished second behind Viktor Gavrikov in the Berlin summer of 1989 . He became a grandmaster in 1990. In 1994 he moved to Germany. He is a member of the Association of Chess Professionals . He has held the title of FIDE Senior Trainer and International Organizer since 2010, and has been a FIDE Arbiter since 2015.
successes
Igor Glek won more than 100 international chess tournaments, for example the World Open in Philadelphia in 1990, the Vienna Open in 1998, the Utrecht Open in 1999 and the Zwolle Open in 2002 . With the Russian national team he reached second place at the European team championship in 1997 in Pula .
With its highest number to date of 2670 in July 1996, it reached number 12 in the FIDE world rankings.
In the four knights game the sequence of moves 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 is called the Glek variant .

In the German federal chess league Glek played in the 1990/91 season for Bielefelder SK , from 1991 to 1997 for SG Bochum 31 and since 2003 for Sportfreunde Katernberg . In the Swiss National League A he played from 2004 to 2009 for SK Mendrisio , with whom he became Swiss team champion in 2007 . In the Dutch Meester class , Glek played for Bussums Schaakgenootschap until 2001 and for BIS Beamer Team from 2001 to 2004 , and in France until 2009 for Vandœuvre Echecs . In Belgium he has played for KSK Rochade Eupen-Kelmis since 2003 , with whom he also took part in the European Club Cup eleven times . He won the Russian team championship in 1996 with Ladja Azov , later he played in Russia for Norilski Nikel Norilsk , with whom he won the European Club Cup in 2001, Termosteps Samara and the Moscow Chess Federation .
