Jakob Meister ( Russian Яков Готлибович Мейстер / Jakow Gotlibowitsch Meister ; born September 11, 1955 in Kopeisk ) is a German - Russian chess master . In 2004 he moved from the Russian Chess Federation to the German Chess Federation without having played for Russia in a FIDE event.

Jakob Meister was several times champion of Chelyabinsk , worked there as a chess trainer since 1974 and played in the semifinals of the championship of the Soviet Union in 1984, 1985 and 1988. In Chelyabinsk he played for the club Poljot (Полёт), took second place with this team at the Soviet team championship in 1990 and reached second place in the European Club Cup in 1992 and third place in 1995. In the Russian team championship he played from 2003 to 2005 for the Tolyattin club Lada (Лада); In 1994 he won the competition with Kadyr Ufa. He is a five-time Berlin chess champion . He won the Berlin individual championship in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2016. Master won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 1st place at the Chelyabinsk B tournament (1989), 1st place at the 2nd international championship tournament in Siemens Forum in Linz (1995), 1st place at the 3rd open chess tournament of SC Kreuzberg (2002), 2nd place at the GM tournament in Marienbad (2008) and 2nd place at the Open in Berlin-Lichtenrade (2008).

Master has held the title of International Master since 1992 and received the Grand Master title in 2008. He won the norms for the title of Grand Master in 2002 (53rd place) and 2004 (65th place) at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow and in the above 2008 tournament in Marienbad.

He has been playing club chess for SK Zehlendorf since 2006 , mostly in the 2nd Bundesliga North , and in the 2007/08 season in the 1st Bundesliga . In the Slovak Extraliga he played from 1993 to 1995 for ŠK Slovan Levice .
