Peter Enders (born February 2, 1963 ) is a German grandmaster in chess .

Life

Enders grew up in the GDR and was considered one of the most talented young players there. During this time he played numerous chess tournaments in Hungary and also played in the Hungarian chess league. Enders suffered greatly from the conflict with the GDR Chess Association: Although he had achieved or far exceeded the required standards for the title of International Master , the association did not apply to FIDE for the title . In 1989 he was not admitted to the GDR championship because of disputes about accommodation there (Enders wanted a single room). Since he was number three in the country at the time, he assumed that this was his due. Enders then made a suicide attempt .

Only after the reunification did he gain a better foothold in Germany in terms of chess; In 1990 he became German blitz chess champion and in 1993 got the IM title recognized. In the same year he won the German individual championship , which brought him qualification for the zone tournament in Ptuj and his first grandmaster norm. He finally received the title in 1997 after he and Normunds Miezis had won the grandmaster tournament in Schöneck at the end of 1996, thus achieving his third and last norm. In 1996 he was also the German master in rapid chess .
