Life

Thies Heinemann, 2007

Thies Heinemann had his chess roots with SG Glückstadt. Even as a teenager he was one of the best chess players in Northern Germany and competed in higher game classes. In the 1988/89 season he played for SV Bad Schwartau in the second Bundesliga , and since 1989 he has played in the first Bundesliga for Hamburger SK .

In 1997 he was named International Master by FIDE .

Thies Heinemann was able to qualify four times for the German individual championship, his best result was a third place in 2004 in Höckendorf. He also won the Dähne Cup in 2003 .

He is also considered a strong blitz player and became the German blitz master in 1997 .

Due to his professional activity as a mathematician, Thies Heinemann hardly competes in any tournaments other than Bundesliga matches.

Heinemann fulfilled three standards for the title of Grand Master (GM) in the 1997/98 Bundesliga , the 2004 German individual championship and the 2006/07 Bundesliga , but an appointment was initially only made with the proviso that he had an Elo rating of at least 2500 reached. Heinemann succeeded in doing this in March 2018, so that he has held the GM title ever since.
