Jens Kotainy (born May 19, 1994 in Hagen ) is a German chess player . He was the 2011 Dähne Cup winner.

Jens Kotainy took part in the following German youth championships: 2004 U10 championship, 2005 U12 championship, 2006 U12 championship, 2007 U14 championship, 2008 U14 championship (first with 7 out of 9), 2009 U16 championship (second with 8 out of 9, tied with Patrick Zelbel ), 2010 U16 Championship and 2011 U18 Championship (both runner-up).

Due to his success he was allowed to take part in the U14 Youth World Cup in Vũng Tau in 2008 . In July 2010 he won the Helmut Kohls tournament at the Dortmund Chess Days ahead of Eckhard Schmittdiel . In March 2012, Kotainy reached third place at the 83rd German Individual Championship .

He achieved a grandmaster norm in 2013 at the 17th Neckar Open in Deizsiau .

At the Sparkassen Chess-Meeting 2013 in Dortmund he was disqualified because he used a mobile phone to support him during games. He was then excluded from the C-squad of the German Chess Federation. The Sportfreunde Katernberg had suspended him after the Neckar Open from its gaming operations, after which he left the club and the SG Bochum 31 joined.

Team fights

His first club was Turm Hohenlimburg , in which his father and brother play. He played team chess in the German Chess League in the 2009/10 , 2010/11 , 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons in the chess department of Sportfreunde Katernberg.

Others

He has been an International Master since September 2012 . His highest rating was 2459 (May 2013).
